|Tips for Blog Photos|

When creating content for a blog, you never want to miss the chance to show off your photography skills by not adding pictures. No matter what kind of blogger you are (fashion, lifestyle, travel, beauty, cooking, etc.) pictures can only enhance your readers' experience. Here are my top 5 tips for enhancing your blog content with photos.

1) Use original photos. The last thing you want to do is infringe on copyrights or steal someone else's photos. The best way to avoid this (and to brush up on your own photography skills) is to use your own pictures! Don't feel the need to rush out and buy the newest DSLR camera, you can take  effective pictures on your smartphone or any handheld camera!

2) Edit your photos. Don't just immediately slap up your pictures once you've imported them. Take the time to really edit them down and perfect the quality of the image. As long as your camera can take a clean photo, you can fake its quality during the editing process!

3) Add some context. If your blog post is about the best Pad Thai in Brooklyn, give your readers a little context and creativity. Post pictures of the infamous Pad Thai, but add a little spice to your post by adding pictures of the neighborhood the restaurant is located or a snapshot of the people in the area. Your readers will appreciate the story-like context you provide for them.

4) Don't overprocess. As fun as it can be to add 4 different vintage filters to an image to create a particular feel, don't overdo it. Your readers will want genuine and authentic images that get your point across. Processing your pictures can help add to the mood, but if you're adding layer upon layer, your readers will notice.

5) Always add a picture. As mundane as a blog post about tips on completing your tax return might sound, adding a picture will always help lure in readers. Create a setup - take a picture of your coffee mug next to your tax return and add a filter. You would be amazed at the creative juices you get flowing!
